CONTENT WARNING FOR AVENUE Q SCHOOL EDITION
Although modified for high schools from the original Broadway content, this production addresses themes that some viewers might find difficult. This musical was chosen because it addresses these difficult themes in a light-hearted way, but hopefully inspires conversation about these topics. Ultimately, we found this material to support and be in alignment with CB’s Lasallian core principles: Respect for all persons, inclusive community, concern for the poor and social justice, quality education and faith in the presence of God, as well as our motto, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve”. These characters have many flaws, but they work through their conflicts and differences to ultimately conclude that community and service to others is the way forward.
CHALLENGING TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS PLAY INCLUDE:
Racism
LGBTQ identity
Relationship commitments
Integration of immigrants in the community
We look forward to sharing this musical with you and hope that it inspires meaningful conversation.
Sincerely,
Dave Perry, Ed.D.
Principal
